Art Therapy for the Aged and End-of-Life Care
Eldercare does not limit to physical rehabilitation treatment only. As life expectancy rises, the importance of psychological wellbeing of elderly is not negligible. One experiences various losses starting from retirement, including identity, functioning, connection, etc. In light of such, this course intensively introduces the psychological changes across stages from retirement to death, including people with dementia. Students will learn to use art to improve the psychological wellbeing of the aged people in face of countdown to life, such that they can live a beautiful life with dignity in twilight years. Course content covers the essential distinction of needs between male and female elderly, allowing you to acknowledge the gender difference in performing art therapy for them. Besides, this course introduces the psychological need of caregiver in facing the close one getting through the above stages, and bereavement art therapy after the death of close ones as well. It helps students to reflect on the meaning of life.

Geriatric Psychology
Understand the psychological transitions and needs associated with each stage from retirement to end-of-life.
Elderly Art Therapy
Identify the roles and applications of various art-based interventions at different stages to enhance psychological well-being for both the elderly and their caregivers.
Bereavement Therapy
Explore the bereavement psychology in the face of loved ones' death and relevant art therapy approaches to address this process.
Self-Review & Adjustment
Deepen self-understanding and reflect on meaning of life through reprocessing personal growth experiences, introspection, and art creation.
